How to take care of recycled silk
Recycled silk can be hand-washed at a cold temperature of no more than 30 degrees using a delicate detergent. Remove excess water by gently pressing the recycled silk garment with a towel and dry flat. To refresh your recycled silk garment, gently spray the garment with fabric spray to remove odor.
Our recycled silk at OpéraSPORT is made from pre-consumer waste of garments and apparel which comes from any excess material created during the steps of material- and product manufacturing, e.g. selvage from weaving, fabric from factory cutting rooms, excess production and unsold items that normally be disposed of as waste or pre consumer garments and apparel. The used materials are then shredded back into fiber form and spun into renewed yarns. Our recycled silk is produced without harming silkworms and requires fewer resources to be produced.
Why recycled silk?
Silk is a natural fiber renowned for its elegance, comfort, and breathability. Silk is comfortable to wear due to its smooth and luxurious texture, which feels soft against the skin and regulates temperature so it keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter.
Recycled silk is the result of repurposing silk waste, including aged apparel, fabric remnants, and abandoned silk cocoons. This eco-conscious method serves to not only cut down on textile waste but also to curtail the demand for supplementary resources, such as water and energy. By recycling silk, we can significantly lower the industry's environmental impact.
